Nightmare.
When news filtered through that Sunderland had signed a Bayern Munich defender, fans of the Black Cats could have been forgiven for getting a funny feeling in their unmentionables.
Jerome Boateng? Hardly. David Alaba? Yeah, right. Jan Kirchhoff? Who, exactly?
The 25-year-old German replaced Danny Graham in the 58th minute with his side drawing 1-1 against Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
Just 21 minutes had passed before it was 4-1 to the hosts, with Kirchhoff conceding a penalty and getting all sorts of abuse on Twitter for making the worst debut since Jonathan Woodgate made his bow for Real Madrid. The former England defender scored an own goal against Athletic Bilbao in 2005 and then promptly got himself sent off.
Someone has already updated Kirchhoff's Wikipedia page! pic.twitter.com/Mq9xsB5gBJ

Kirchhoff's performance today has been the worst I've ever seen live and I saw Rasiak in the flesh
