Four days of top-class racing in the Kingdom this July…

Killarney’s July Racing Festival gets underway on the evening of Monday 14th July and promises 4 great days of racing (three evening meetings on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and a day meeting on Thursday). It’s party time all summer long in Killarney and there’s an energy to the town that can’t be compared.

The racecourse is no exception, it’s one of the most scenic tracks in the county and is smack-bang in the middle of Killarney town – a quick walk from all the hotels, bars and restaurants. The July Festival is going to be an absolute cracker with a mix of quality national hunt and flat racing on offer to spectators. It’s a racing festival definitely worth a visit!

Here’s JOE’s five reasons you need to head along…

1. High quality action

Killarney always attracts the cream of the crop from the racing world and July is expected to be no different. There’s some prestigious races and some lovely prize money on offer so expect some of the big trainers to bring their best horses.

Tuesday evening features the Christy McSweeney Memorial Novice Steeplechase with a prize fund of €15,500. Wednesday evening’s feature race is the Killarney Handicap Hurdle with a prize fund of €23,500. Nice!

2. Hello Ladies

Killarney’s Ladies Day is one of the highlights of the July Festival, and if we say so ourselves, it’s one of the best Ladies Day on the Racing Calendar.

There will be prizes for the Queen of Fashion and the Most Stylish Hat so we’re expecting the beautiful women of Ireland to be out in force on the Thursday.

3. Check out that view

The great thing about the Killarney July Festival is that it’s on in Killarney which, luckily for the people living there, is one of the most scenic places in Ireland.

There’s so much to see before and after the racing. You can head to Torc Waterfall, Muckross Park, Aghadoe, Ross Castle or any of a number of places, you’re spoiled for choice in that beautiful town.

4. The Nightlife

Killarney is well-known for many reasons but the nights out in the town are legendary and it’s one of the most popular locations to visit in the country.

You have so many options, you can go on a mad one with the lads after your day’s racing or else if you want to chill out with your missus or your family, there are lovely restaurants and cafes too. It’s  entirely up to you how you want to spend all your winnings.

5. An experience you won’t forget

If all of the above hasn’t enticed you enough, the fine folks at Killarney Races have put together this video to show know exactly what you’re in for, see you there…
