Just in time: Jonny Sexton in imperious form for Racing Metro in final game before 6 Nations

Bring on Scotland.

Tony Cuddihy

Jonny Sexton was on top form in his final club appearance before the 6 Nations, as Racing Metro climbed into the Top 14 Heineken Cup places with victory over Toulouse.

The Irish out-half scored a try and set up another as he amassed a 15-point haul against the four-time European champions.

Chasing after a Jacques Cronje charge-down from Lionel Beauxis’ attempted clearance, Sexton went over for the opening score of the game before converting his own try.

The 28-year-old then set up Mike Phillips and added two penalties to make it 18-0 before the half-hpur mark.

Sexton’s day was complete when he converted a try from Marc Andreu, with Racing going on to record a 25-5 victory.

Joe Schmidt’s heart will have been in his mouth when Samoan Joe Tekori dropped a knee on the former Leinster man’s head, but after treatment Sexton recovered to play until he was replaced with six minutes remaining.

He will now fly home to Dublin in preparation for next Sunday’s 6 Nations opener against Scotland at the Aviva Stadium.
