The British Horseracing Authority alerted the Gambling Commission yesterday about unusual betting patterns for races today at Lingfield and Kempton.

Following the alert, several bookmakers have taken the unusual step of betting on starting prices only on seven races at Lingfield and Kempton. Several bookmakers, including Boylesports and William Hill have halted betting on the following races – Lingfield’s 2.00, 2.30, 3.30 and 4.40 and Kempton’s 6.10, 6.40 and 9.10 .

Kempton Races

Trainer Tony Newcombe had six horses running today, three in Lingfield and three in Kempton with four of the six being serious movers in the market. Another group of horses belonging to Stephen Arnold also had their odds slashed after he declared he was backing five runners.

However, with two of the races already run today, the first race yielded no winner or place for one of the horses in the suspected coup and again in the second race, the coup hasn’t materialised. Not a great start in fairness to the bonanza. We will watch the other races results with interest all the same.
