Lionel Messi has been hinting at a possible Barcelona exit

He's concentrating on this season first and foremost.

He’s concentrating on this season first and foremost.

Lionel Messi has always said that he wants to stay at Barcelona for life and it’s difficult to even imagine him wearing the colours of any other club. He did say that the only other club he could possibly play for would be his old club Newell’s Old Boys and he has mentioned in the past that he could finish his career there.

However, in an interview with Argentine sports newspaper Ole, he hinted that maybe a move away from Barcelona could actually happen. “I’m just living the present, I’m thinking about having a great year at Barcelona and about winning the titles we want to win at Barcelona. Nothing more.”

He went on to say: “After that, we’ll see. Football has a lot of twists and turns. I always said that I’d like to stay there (Barcelona) forever, but things don’t always work out as you want them to.”

When pressed as to whether it would be a personal decision or one from the club he responded by saying: “I have said it many times – if it were up to me, I would stay forever. But like I said just now, things don’t always turn out how you would like, especially in football, which is so changeable and in which so many things happen.”

So there you have it. It’s hardly a transfer request, but still, it’s an admission of sorts for the first time from Messi that his club future may lie elsewhere. Cue transfer rumour mill frenzy for the next couple of transfer windows.
