Brendan Rodgers could be excused for looking over his shoulder.
The beleaguered Liverpool manager saw his side draw 1-1 in normal time against League Two Carlisle United in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday night, and as the match headed for penalties the boo-boys gathered both inside and outside Anfield.
Danny Ings had put the Reds ahead in the first half, only to see Derek Asamoah equalise with Carlisle’s only shot on target inside 90 minutes.
Successful penalties from James Milner, Emre Can and Danny Ings saw Liverpool through in the end, with Adam Bogdan superb in the shoot-out, but it wasn’t pretty for the Premier League side. They face Bournemouth in the next round.
Twitter, as ever, was happy to take the piss.
