Looks like we are going to see the Irish flag at the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony (or maybe not)

Keep an eye out for Northern Ireland's Joe Fitzpatrick, who will carry a tricolour around Celtic Park tomorrow.

JOE

Keep an eye out for Northern Ireland’s Joe Fitzpatrick, who will carry a tricolour around Celtic Park tomorrow.

Earlier today we brought you the news that savvy Tongan boxer Lomalito Moala used Twitter to let everyione know he would carry a Celtic shirt around Parkhead for the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony tomorrow.

Now Irish boxer Joe Fitzpatrick (front row, second from right above) has gone one better. He has taken to Twitter to ask for support to carry a tricolour at the ceremony and needless to say, it happened pretty quickly.

Fitzpatrick is also a lightweight, in the same division as Moala. If they meet in the ring it could be the most watched event of the Games here in Ireland.

UPDATE: Fitzpatrick has since deleted the tweet, so perhaps his tricolour idea didn’t get the go ahead.
