Man United look set to make their first signing of the José Mourinho era

Despite all the rumours, it’s not Zlatan…

José Mourinho has wasted no time in putting his stamp on the Man United squad as they look set to complete a deal for Villarreal’s Eric Bailly.

According to the Guardian, the club has agreed a deal in the region of €32 milllion plus add-ons for the Ivory coast defender after he completed a medical today.

It seems likely that Bailly, who can play across the back four, will slot into the defence instead of Daley Blind who deputised as centre-half last year in the absence of any credible alternatives.

The Manchester club beat off competition from Leicester City and Arsenal to sign the defender whom Mourinho believes could be the answer to man United’s defensive issues.

Bailly signed for Villarreal in January 2015 for a reasonably paltry sum of €5 million, when Gabriel left for Arsenal.

The Spanish side look set to pocket a cool €27 million profit for the young defender when he completes his move to Manchester.

Not a bad bit of business by Villarreal…
