The Marussia F1 team, formerly known as Virgin, are all set to make their F1 debut in Australia after passing all of the FIA’s mandatory crash tests.

The MR01 car had failed one out of 18 FIA crash tests last month, for rear impact if you must know, forcing them to pull out of last week’s launch and pre-season testing in Barcelona.

Thankfully for the Russian team – the first from the country to compete in Formula One – after a few minor adjustments the car is now all set for launch and was put through its paces at Silverstone earlier this week by drivers Timo Glock and Charles Pic.

“We were all thrilled to see the new car out on track over the past two days,” said Pat Symonds, Marussia’s technical consultant.

“And whilst we have a lot of catching up to do, we take heart from the fact that everything is back on a more positive trajectory.”

There’s just over a week to go until the first race of the season in Melbourne and Marussia fans will be hoping that Glock will be able to replicate some of the heroics in the MR01 car that he has displayed in the past (see below).
