Graeme McDowell retained his French Open title with a tremendous final round display in Paris on Sunday.

The Portrush golfer came from nine shots behind overnight leader Kevin Stadler to claim the €500,000 prize and boost his chances of selection in Paul McGinley’s Ryder Cup team.

Five birdies in a round of -4 was enough for McDowell to claim the win, despite dropping a shot on the 18th.

It looked like a play-off was in the offing when Stadler, son of Major-winner Craig, three putted the final hole to hand the title to the Irishman.

Another Irishman, Michael Hoey, secured qualification for the Open Championship by finishing tied for fifth on two-under.
