Anthony Foley’s name will be on the hearts of every Munster player with this tribute jersey

Thomond Park is going to be very emotional this afternoon.

While Munster supporters will be hoping for a win against Glasgow Warriors to start their Champions Cup campaign in the best possible way, events on the field will undoubtedly be overshadowed by the swell of emotion in Thomond Park as supporters gather to remember one of the provinces most beloved sons, Anthony Foley.

In an incredibly fitting touch, every Munster player will have the name of ‘Axel’ draped over their hearts as each player in red will be wearing this tribute jersey.

You may already know that the number eight jersey has been retired for the day, but there are other tributes taking place at Thomond Park. The match programme has been turned into a glowing tribute to Anthony Foley’s life and it goes without saying that a minute’s silence will also be observed before kick-off.

Supporters can also sign a book of condolence in the Fan Zone under the East Stand or in the Munster Rugby Supporters Club bar.

The Fields of Athenry was heard all across Irish radio yesterday, but before kick off this afternoon, the Munster Rugby Supporter’s Club Choir will perform ‘There Is An Isle’. There’s also going to be a special rendition of ‘Stand Up And Fight.
