It took nearly a full week, but he got there in the end.

Last week’s Belgian GP at Spa got off to a wild start when Nico Rosberg crashed into Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton on the second lap. Hamilton had to retire, Rosberg managed to keep going and took second, meaning the German now leads the English driver by 29 points.

Team boss Toto Wolff was spitting feathers afterwards, calling the clash ‘unacceptable’ and after a meeting today, the matter seems to have been resolved. Rosberg issued a long apology, as you can see below, while the team have also disciplined the driver.

In a statement they said: “During the meeting, Nico acknowledged his responsibility for the contact that occurred on lap two of the Belgian Grand Prix and apologised for this error of judgement.

“Suitable disciplinary measures have been taken for the incident.

“Mercedes-Benz remains committed to hard, fair racing because this is the right way to win world championships. It is good for the team, for the fans and for Formula 1.

“Lewis and Nico understand and accept the team’s number one rule: there must be no contact between the team’s cars on track.

“They remain free to race for the 2014 FIA Formula 1 world championship.”
