It’s a very distinctive smell…

Novak Djokovic told the umpire he could smell weed on the court yesterday when he was playing against Jeremy Chardy in the Rogers Cup in Montreal.

The player told the umpire: “Someone is smoking weed, I can smell it, I’m getting dizzy.”

He subsequently followed up his claim after the game, telling reporters: “You can’t believe how bad it was.”

This isn’t the first time Djokovic had smelt weed on the court, saying it had also been a problem the day before when he was playing a doubles match with Janko Tipsarevic.

“Yesterday in the doubles match, today again. Somebody’s really enjoying his life around the tennis court,” he joked.

After beating Chardy 6-4 6-4, Djokovic will play the Scot Andy Murray later today and said: “Whoever it is, I hope he doesn’t come back tomorrow. He’s probably on the seventh sky somewhere.”

The match will take place at 8pm GMT, with live coverage on Sky Sports 3.
