One reporter is really not happy about how the ladies darts is going

JOE

We know you are all big ladies darts fans, but the person who writes the reports on the BDO’s official website is a REALLY big fan of Trina Gulliver.

As you will know, of course, Trina Gulliver is the nine-time champion of the ladies darts world, the all-conquering queen of the tungsten and princess of the oche. In short, she’s a pretty big deal okay?

Anyway, the ladies world championships run side-by-side with the men’s at the BDO event that the BBC and ESPN have been showing this week. And while the exit of champion Martin ‘Wolfie’ Adams was a shock last night, it was nothing to the reaction the BDO site has to the departure of Gulliver.

In a stunning piece of one-sided reporting, the victor, a Russian player named Anastasia Dobromyslova, is accused of the sort of dirty tricks that Dick Dastardly would baulk at.

“Arrogance and self confidence exuded from the Russian but Gulliver let her darts do the talking, as took the opening leg against the throw after Dobromyslova missed 10 doubles,” is the line where we first suspect the writer may favour the English champion.

“A maximum steered the Golden Girl to the next, the snarling black-shirted Russian taking the third on double 12 and in the fourth she set the pace, levelling the match on double 12 and turning to salute the crowd, the Somerset player bemused by her opponent’s behavior, “  is the next paragraph and we would have to question the use of ‘snaring’ when it comes to a darts match, no matter how competitive it was.

The piece concludes with allegations of ‘mind games’ and ‘slow play’ by the pesky Russian all contributing to the downfall of the English champ.

We don’t know about you but we might watch some of the ladies darts now. And we will be cheering for the Russian too.
