Blackwater hurler Diarmuid Murphy escaped a very serious injury from a broken hurley, thanks to his helmet.

Few sports provide such excellent subject matter for photographers as hurling. High speed, high flying and highly skilled, it is a snapper's dream and here's the latest classic of the genre. Sent into us by Declan O'Leary of Blackwater GAA club in Wexford, and taken by club photgrapher Pauline Byrne, it captures an incredible moment in an Intermediate hurling match on Friday night. Somehow a half a broken hurley belonging to an Oylegate-Glenbrien player flew right into the head of Blackwater's Diarmuid Murphy. Luckily for the Wexford Under 21 player, his helmet meant he didn't end up with half an ash tree stuck in his head. Wexford hurling hurl helmet
