A huge degree of respect between two of Ireland’s finest athletes…
A frequent topic of discussion that JOE and every Irish sports fan debates in pubs around the country regards “who is Ireland’s greatest ever athlete”.
While it’s almost impossible to accurately gauge the merits of different sports and athletes, it still hasn’t stopped us from chatting about one of our favourite topics. We need something to talk about in between pints.
JOE has heard very strong, persuasive and passionate cases made for Padraig Harrington, Henry Shefflin, Paul McGrath, Brian O’Driscoll. Sonia O’Sullivan and many more as the debate rages.
Olympic gold medalist and current World Champion Katie Taylor is probably top of this JOE’s list but the Bray boxer has a very different athlete in mind when it comes to her own selection.
Conor McGregor has Jose Aldo firmly in his sights right now after the Dubliner emphatically dispatched of Dennis Siver in the early hours of Monday morning and it seems that Katie Taylor is a firm believer that The Notorious will reign supreme in the featherweight division.
The feeling of admiration and respect is also mutual from McGregor towards the peerless and incredible Taylor.
