We all want to see the Boys in Green skin the Scots on Friday night, but the stakes are particularly high for this Irish fan.
It’s been a long time since Irish soccer fans have been looking forward to a game as much as we’re all looking forward to the clash with Scotland on Friday evening.
The close proximity of Scotland, the fact that’s it taking place in Celtic Park and the good vibes surrounding Martin O’Neill’s men following the last-gasp draw away to World Champions Germany last time out has heightened the sense of anticipation ahead of the crucial Euro 2016 qualifier this weekend.
There will be some nerves, of course, and there won’t be many people more nervous than Irish fan John Cassidy, who reacted to a couple of unflattering paragraphs (see below) about the Irish team in an opinion piece about Friday’s game in the Daily Record and decided to see if the journalist in question, one Keith Jackson, had the balls to back up his prediction of a Scottish win.
Having read the (quite harsh piece) John offered him a bet based around the result of Friday’s game, initially suggesting that the loser wear the opposition jersey into work for a week, but when Keith hesitated to agree, they compromised on a day with pictorial evidence and Keith was happy to get on board.

Fair play to Keith for taking it on; we look forward to seeing him in at work in an Irish jersey some time next week. In fact, even the official sponsors of the Irish jersey, Three, decided to get involved and have offered to provide the official jersey for the forfeit. Fair play lads!
@tedermeatballs @CassidyJohn @JOEdotie We’ll provide the jersey for this forfeit! What’s your size? #SupportWorks pic.twitter.com/haWpS0kr7a
