Pics: Images of Aussie rugby brawl that resulted in 92 years of bans for players

As the fairly shocking pictures show, this was no ordinary mid-match brawl.

As the fairly shocking pictures show, this was no ordinary mid-match brawl.

A total of 92 years of bans were handed out Down Under as players and spectators at a match between Penrith Waratahs and Western City Tigers Under 19s became involved in a massive schemozzle.

The bans for the players, all from the Tigers, range from six weeks up to a monster 25 years for one  player who was done for ‘unauthorised entry onto field, behave contrary, punching and kicking’. The 17-year-old will be next eligible to play in 2038, aged 42. Two other teenagers were hit with 20-year bans for similar offences while others received bans for 12, 10 and five years.

A fight between two players escalated to involve ’40 or 50 players and spectators’ according to Aussie media and in a bid to send a message that this sort of thing is unacceptable the Penrith District Junior Rugby League handed out these massive penalties.

Something for the GAA to mention next time someone thinks they are too harsh…
