If you find yourself stuck for a place to kip in Poland during Euro 2012 then you might find yourself going back to college. A €30 a night plan has been hatched by the Polish authorities.

The Poles have apparently had enough with their hotels trying to rip off Irish fans. That’s why they’ve decided to turf out a load university students early.

Students in Gdansk and Poznan, the two host cities for Ireland’s group games, will be forced out of the college accommodation early this summer.

The move will mean that there’s an extra 3,0000 very welcome beds in Gdansk alone, with more expected in Poznan. There could be more than 20,000 Irish fans making the trip to Poland for this summer’s championship.

Irish soccer fans have been annoyed to find that some hotels coincidentally jacked up their prices by 20 per cent. One hotel hiked the cost of a normally €100 room to an eye watering €2,000.

The demand for hotel rooms in Poland was already high, but it probably doesn’t help that 13 of the 16 teams involved have decided they don’t want to be based in hosting partner Ukraine.
