With the player of the year nominations released, JOE decided to have a vote to see who you reckon has been the worst player this season.

By Bradley Maguire

There has been plenty of talk about the PFA nominations for the best players of the year, but seeing as there have been more than a few that have seriously disappointed, we decided to try and decide who would win the opposite award this season – the one for the worst player in the Premier League.

There are plenty of nominees, and after a highly scientific and democratic voting process a bit of a chat in JOE towers, we’ve put together a list of the following names for you to vote on. Let the carnage commence!

Nacho Monreal:

After costing Arsenal a whopping £8.5 million, Nacho Monreal has failed to make a huge impact. Lackluster performances have seen him replaced at left-back by Kieran Gibbs and he’s only made three blocks all season. Not what you want from your defenders.

Danny Graham:

Danny Graham has been disappointing to say the least. Scoring only one goal in 12 starts and also being very unspectacular in the process. It’s safe to say ol’ Danny has been a flop, registering a whopping 16 shots all season.

Martin Demichelis:

Now, Martin Demichelis hasn’t been too bad, but a few mistakes in high-profile games *cough Messi cough*  has seen him included in our illustrious list. In all fairness, we are well aware that Messi would do that to all of us but Marty seems to be getting in to the team despite having the pace of a rusted kettle rolling up hill. At times he has looked like a real weakness in an otherwise solid team and is a target for attackers.

Jozy Altidore:

Tipped by many (Sean) at the start of the season to be a huge flop, Jozy sure hasn’t disappointed us, mustering a mere one goal in 19 starts for the Black Cats after they forked out £6.5 million for him last summer. See the video below for a truly horrific miss against Cardiff which is a fine example of what he has brought to the party. If Sunderland do manage to stay up it surely won’t any thanks to him.

Aly Cissokho:

Liverpool fans had high hopes for the pacy defender who signed on loan from Valencia for the season, but he has failed to outshine 21-year-old Jon Flanagan and has now got a permanent place on the Liverpool subs bench. the kindest thing we can say about his first touch (blame JOE’s Adrian Collins for this) is that it makes us laugh. We can’t see Liverpool making his loan move permanent and after a mere two crosses all season we don’t blame them.

Marouane Fellaini:

We don’t really need to say too much about Fellaini. He went to Man United for £27 million and he has played really, really, really, really badly. He loves a good elbow, too.

Manchester United v Liverpool - Premier League

Dwight Gayle:

Costing a whopping £6 million, Dwight Gayle was brough in from Peterborough to score cracking goals and inject some attacking impetus to Crystal palace. He has only managed to score three times in his debut Premier League season, and averaging a measly 1.1 shots per game, he hasn’t really set the world alight. Then again, he did do this:

Iago Aspas:

The prolific Celta Vigo front man was a promising talent from La Liga when he arrived at Liverpool, but he has failed to live up to what potential he had this season. He looks like a player who is incredibly short of confidence and almost scared to make a mistake, which probably comes from him barely playing a minute for the Merseyside club this season.

Papiss Cissé:

With just two Premier League goals this season its been a poor showing from the once prolific striker. He and Demba Ba’s dazzling partnership used to terrify even best Premier League center-backs but Newcastle as a whole have been so terrible in the last few months that we’re sure both parties would be happy to go their separate ways this summer.

Newcastle United v Fulham - Premier League

Brede Hangeland:

The once sturdy defender has been flimsy at the back for a Cottagers side which has been submerged in a relegation dog-fight this season. If Felix Magath’s side have any chance of staying up we will need to see a vast improvement in Hangeland’s performances, as he has only made 21 tackles all season. He has set the bar high for himself in previous seasons, but this year’s poor form from their key man is surely part of the reason Fulham are in the position they are.
