Premier League Scorecast: Can Liverpool continue their surge for the top four?

We think so...

JOE

This match may not have the title implications of old, but Liverpool v Manchester United is still one of the biggest games of the year.

Losing 3-0 at Old Trafford in December was a turning point for Liverpool. Since then they’ve settled on a system that allows them to make the most of their assets.

Meanwhile, United have been pottering along picking up enough good results to remain in the top four. However, expansive play has been the exception, rather than the rule, for Louis Van Gaal’s side.

Last week’s 3-0 win against Spurs showed that they can play attractive football, but prizes aren’t given in the Premier League for entertianing, and we expect to see a much more defensive display from the Red Devils today.

Besides, we reckon most United supporters would settle for the 3 points and a boring game.

Looking at the statistics, an away victory seems an unlikely scenario though. United have only defeated Liverpool once in their last seven meetings.

There’s also only been one draw in the last 18 league encounters. These statistics, combined with Liverpool’s blistering form and home advantage, has pushed us towards backing the ‘Pool.

Jordan Henderson has scored the opening goal in each of Liverpool’s last three league games, so we’re backing him to do it again.

Our bet is Liverpool to repeat last season’s 1-0 win and Henderson to get the goal. This is priced at 66/1.
