All the reaction to clinical first half performance from Ireland

Alan Loughnane

We were never going to lose this game…

Ireland have a healthy lead of 28 points going into half time in the second game of the Natwest Six Nations, and so far it’s a very different encounter to last week’s game against France.

It was always going to be a far more open game than the cauldron of tension that was the Stade de France mere seven days ago.

Thankfully, the bonus point is already in the bag, although we’d have been confident of nailing one in the second half if we were still in the hunt.

It could be a long day at the office for Italy at this stage.

But Ireland suffered a major blow early on when Tadhg Furlong left the field early with what appeared to be a hamstring injury, so Ireland will be hoping that it’s not serious and he’ll be back in contention to start in two weeks time.

But overall it’s been a positive performance.
