Finally, some good news.
Shane Lowry, massive football fan that he is, will not have been happy with Saturday’s showing in Bordeaux that isn’t stopping him putting in the performance of his life at the US Open.
The Offaly man is currently -6 as he closes out his delayed third round, three shots ahead of American Dustin Johnson, and is flying the flag for Ireland having seen his compatriot Rory McIlroy fail to make the cut.

There’s still a long way to go – an entire round – but the 29-year-old is well placed to seal a famous victory and restore some sporting optimism ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Italy.
Rooting for Shane Lowry, keep the Irish flag flying your doing great #golf #inspirational 🇮🇪⛳️🏌

A Shane Lowry win would fairly round off the weekend. Bottle of Malbec at the ready 😋

This particular tweet says it all. No pressure, Shane, no pressure…
If Shane Lowry doesn't win the US open it would have to be the worst weekend for Irish sport ever😢😢
