Real Madrid have been kicked out of the Copa del Rey for fielding an ineligible player.
Winger Denis Cheryshev started for Rafael Benitez’s side despite the fact that he should have been suspended.
Cheryshev accrued three bookings while on loan at Villareal last season and was ineligible for the game.
Benitez took the Russian off early in the second half when he realised his mistake, insisting he acted in good faith, but now the club has been kicked out of the competition.
Expect an appeal within days.
