Renowned jockey JT McNamara has died aged 41

The horse racing world is in mourning today following the news that former jockey John Thomas McNamara has passed away at the age of 41.

McNamara, one of the most successful amateur jockeys in National Hunt racing, was left paralysed following a fall at Cheltenham in 2013.

According to the Limerick Leader, he experienced complications on Friday night before being rushed to University Limerick.

He then returned home to spend his final days at home surrounded by friends and family.

JT was a hugely successful amateur jockey picking up a win in Cheltenham in 2012 on board Teaforthree and he was a very popular among the other jockeys.

He survived by his wife Caroline, his two sons Dylan, Harry and daughter Olivia.
