REPORT: Alex Ferguson could return to manage Manchester United

Tony Cuddihy

The Sunday People have made an audacious claim about the Old Trafford manager’s job.

They claim that Alex Ferguson will return to manage Manchester United on an interim basis if Louis van Gaal is sacked before the end of the season.

The tabloid believes that Ferguson would act as a mentor to Ryan Giggs, who is being groomed to take over the role in the long term.

While the return of Ferguson seems unlikely, the Scot will surely be tempted to steady the ship at a club where he became the most successful manager of all time.

United have been slated this season for being ‘boring’ to watch and not scoring enough goals.

They beat Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield on Sunday thanks to a strike from Wayne Rooney, United’s only shot on target in the game.
