It looks like the Gooch will miss out on the clash with Donegal…

Kerry trainer Cian O’Neill has confirmed that Colm Cooper will not be fit to play in Sunday’s All-Ireland football final against Donegal. The forward suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury playing for his club Dr Crokes earlier this year and it was thought he had no chance of playing with Kerry in 2014.

However, rumours of a return for Gooch were circulating after he took part in the warm up ahead of the Kingdom’s win over Mayo in the semi final but those rumours have now been put to bed.

Speaking to the Irish Sun, O’Neill said: “Colm is ahead of schedule, but he’s not ahead of schedule to the point that he’ll be playing.

“He had a ruptured ACL, a posterior cruciate ligament issue and fractured patella. That’s three serious injuries. If it was just one of the there, you could be more specific with his return to play.

“But we’ve always said 2015 – we’re categorical about that. For him as much as anyone.”
