Some disgruntled Liverpool fans are planning to fly a banner over Anfield this Saturday for their clash with Chelsea.

Whatever happened to a good old sing-song? Or standing outside the players’ entrance with home-made placards demanding someone’s resignation?

Those were the fan protest modes of choice in days gone by, but now everyone who has the temerity to have a sticky spell as manager of a big club is liable to be castigated via the medium of aeroplanes carrying banners.

There is an actual account on Twitter demanding the sacking of Brendan Rodgers as boss of Liverpool. Here is their banner and the tweet which accompanied it:

Manchester United fans used this method of protest last season demanding the sacking of David Moyes and also to have a pop at Steven Gerrard. We would never complain about someone’s right to protest, but surely this is a bit soon in the tenure of Brendan Rodgers?

He did an amazing job last season and has had to re-adjust the squad this season. Things are not going well at the moment, but that’s when you need the support of your fans.
