Ronan O’Gara is back in Cork today as he prepares for his testimonial dinner and has confirmed that Racing Metro are considering a bid for Conor Murray.

Speaking to Pat Kenny this morning on his Newstalk Show which is coming live from Cork, the Racing Metro coach confirmed that the Munster scrum-half is being monitored by the club with his contract running out at the end of the current campaign.

Johnny Sexton, and to a lesser extent O’Gara in a coaching capacity, have paved the way for some of Ireland’s top names to make the move to the Top 14 and worryingly from an IRFU perspective, Racing Metro president Jacky Lorenzetti is tonight a guest at O’Gara’s testimonial dinner in Cork, where the wealthy owner is expected to step up his efforts to sign Murray.

Murray himself will not be in attendance at the special dinner tonight as he will be in Glasgow ahead of the RaboDirect PRO12 clash at Scotstoun, though some of the senior players will remain in Cork before departing to Scotland later on.

It is understood the IRFU have begun talks with Murray and all out-of-contract players, but these negotiations are at a preliminary stage.

Could the two former team-mates link up again at Racing Metro?

O’Gara revealed to Kenny how the move came to France came to pass, his ambitions to be a head coach within the next 5-10 years, how he has settled in France and his cherished memories from his successful Munster career.

He also gave an insight to how his kids are getting on in the French-speaking primary school, and how he has worried how the kids are mixing with the locals.
