Rory McIlroy proves his soundness as he writes lovely letter to young fan

Alan Loughnane

A nice gesture from the star…

Earlier this year, Rory McIlroy won the the Fed Ex Cup and claimed the cash prize in excess of €10 million.

McIlroy had looked like he may come up short before a superb 64 final round set up a play-off which he won on the fourth hole.

This is the shot which set him on his way…

His victory at East Lake secured him the Fed Ex Cup and in celebration, he threw his ball into the crowd so that a lucky fan could claim the valuable piece of sporting history.

The ball was caught by a young fan named Brady, and his family contacted McIlroy to thank him for his act of kindness.

McIlroy responded by writing him a letter…

“Hi Brady.

“I hope you are keeping well. I just want to thank you for coming to watch me at the Tour Championship. I also believe you were able to get the ball I threw into the spectators after my eagle on 16. Very well done! That shot turned the tournament in my favour and helped me to eventually win this year’s FedEx Cup.

“I’m so glad that somebaody young was able to get it before an adult! I hope that ball and this short letter remind you that I have always wanted young people to do well in life. It may be at school, playing sport or even just being with your family, but doing your best is really what’s most important.”

Sound man Rory, sound man…
