Rory McIlroy’s latest comments about golf at the Olympics won’t go down well

Paul Moore

He made his feelings known.

Rory McIlroy may not be competing for Olympic gold at Rio but that hasn’t prevented the four-time major winner from commenting on golf’s reappearance on the Olympic stage, its first time since 1904.

The Hollywood golfer has said that he “probably (will) watch the Olympics, but I’m not sure golf is one of the sports I’ll watch”. McIlroy later stated that he prefers to only watch “the stuff that matters”.

The World Number 4 opted out of going to Rio, because of fears over the Zika virus.

Jason Day , Dustin Johnson and now Jordan Spieth have also backed out for the same reason, meaning that none of the Top 4 will be competing.

Padraig Harrington and Seamus Power will compete for Ireland in Rio.
