RTÉ’s tribute to Robbie Keane will remind you what a special player he was

Carl Kinsella

Robbie Keane called time on his international career last night in typical Robbie fashion, scoring for one last time in front of the home crowd.

A first-half golazo against Oman in a 4-0 win will be the last goal that Robbie ever scored in an Ireland jersey, and it certainly was a goal worth ending a career on.

Keane scored 68 times for Ireland over his 18-year career, a phenomenal record by any metric. It’s going to take a very special player to get even halfway to overtaking the man from Tallaght as Ireland’s record goalscorer.

The tributes were flowing in for Robbie last night, and one of the most impressive is this video by RTÉ, which catalogues some of Keano’s finest moments in green – including his unforgettable goal against Germany in the 2002 World Cup.

This video will remind you what a player we had. To quote the great bard, we shall not look upon his like again.
