Scorecast Away! Lukaku to break the ice but nothing to separate old rivals

The first Merseyside derby of the season happens at Anfield this Saturday and both sides come into the game looking less than convincing.

The first Merseyside derby of the season takes place at Anfield this Saturday and both sides come into the game looking less than convincing.

Both Liverpool and Everton have had mixed starts to the season. Liverpool have already lost three of their first five league games and the sale of their talisman, Luis Suarez, is having a negative effect on them.

Everton have also flattered to deceive in the opening weeks and they’ve only won one of their first five matches.

Everton were comprehensively beaten by Swansea midweek in the Capital One Cup whereas Liverpool eventually beat Middlesbrough in a marathon penalty shoot-out. The match this weekend presents both sides with a huge opportunity for a morale-boosting win.

As they both harbour ambitions of reaching the top four this season, a change in form is needed very soon. We think this has stalemate written all over it and reckon it’ll be a 1-1 draw. Who will score the first goal though?

The feeling in our waters is that Romelu Lukaku will open the scoring for the Toffees, but there’ll be nothing separating the sides in the end and odds on that scenario coming to pass look pretty delicious at 35/1 to our eyes.
