Sharlene Mawdsley named in Ireland squad for European Championships

She is set to line up in the individual 400m as well as the relay

The 400m star was injured during the final of the women's 200m at the National Senior Track and Field Championships in Santry over the weekend.

A blow for Sharlene Mawdsley's flying season

The timing of the injury is a significant setback for Mawdsley, who has lowered her 400m personal best four times already this season and signed a professional contract with Nike earlier this month. Athletics Ireland confirmed her place while cautioning that her involvement remains 'dependent on full fitness.'

She joins a strong Irish squad that includes Rhasidat Adeleke, Mark English, Cian McPhillips, Sarah Lavin and Kate O'Connor, as The42 reported.

Adeleke booked her place by winning the women's 200m final over the weekend, clocking 22.80 to secure the A standard qualifying time, while O'Connor is currently competing in the heptathlon at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
