The question on everyone's lips following Conor McGregor's two round demolition of Eddie Alvarez is, who will he face in his next fight? We've already heard John Kavanagh's thoughts on the subject when he spoke with Ariel Helwani in The MMA Hour. McGregor has a number of options on the table and in many ways, he holds all the cards with his undoubted stardom in the UFC. For many MMA idealists, there is a clear path on what The Notorious should do next. They want McGregor to relinquish his hold on the featherweight crown and fight either Khabib Nurmagomedov or Tony Ferguson to defend his lightweight title. But the world of Conor McGregor is rarely so straightforward and the UFC have long abandoned the practice of what they should do when dealing with the vocal Dubliner and have often thought with their wallets rather than with their heads. Therefore, the logical outcome for them could realistically be a trilogy fight with Nate Diaz, at lightweight for the 155 pound belt. It's the fight that will sell the most Pay-Per-Views and there's already an established narrative which makes the fight an easy sell. We can imagine the trailers for it now, "It's one all, now we'll see who the true champion is..." *read in dramatic voice with ominous music playing Then there's the option of fighting Tyron Woodley for the welterweight crown, and seeking history by becoming the first man to hold three belts in the UFC simultaneously. Dana White has said Woodley will fight Stephen Thompson next, and Dana never goes back on his word... oh wait. But who are the American bookies putting their money on? They think that Nate Diaz is the most likely next opponent for The Notorious as the UFC look to cash in on the rivalry between the pair as per MMAFighting.
