The final appearance of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar in front of his adoring fans in Mumbai is captured in a picture fitting of Caravaggio.

Wisden, the annual bible of cricket, released their 2014 edition today and along with awarding their usual top five cricketers of the year award, this year’s edition is also stuffed with praise for the now retired ‘Little Master’ Sachin Tendulkar.

The Indian batsman retired from the game last year and he walked away as probably the greatest batsman cricket has ever seen, breaking every record over a phenomenal 24-year career.

Tendulkar’s final Test appearance, in his home city of Mumbai against West Indies last November, was an emotional one for the entire country of India, who hailed him as the ‘God of Cricket’. And this sensational image of him heading out to the crease for the final time, snapped by photographer Atul Kamble, deservedly won the ‘Image of the Year’ prize from Wisden

From the light behind Tendulkar to the adoring fans straining for a picture, it is composed like a classical painting in any number of ways and it has to be one of the best sports pictures we’ve ever seen in any sport.
