The hotel prices in Cardiff ahead of Ireland’s match at the weekend are staggering

Supply and demand can be a pain in the arse

Supply and demand can be a pain in the arse.

Irish rugby fans have made a habit of taking over the cities that they’ve visited recently, London and Cardiff resembled a sea of green before the Pool D matches, as the support for Joe Schmidt’s men has been superb.

As any supporters will know, it’s not exactly cheap to follow the boys in green on the road with match tickets, travel expenses, and food/drink all taking a fair amount of cash from your bank account.

While a price increase is to be expected in any city that’s hosting a sporting event, the Trivago Hotel Price Index (tHPI) for October 2015 has noted a startling increase in the cost of a hotel room in Cardiff on the eve of the quarter-final with Argentina.

According to their figures, prices have soared by 960% in the Welsh capital for this weekend’s match against the Pumas. The website also discovered that the average cost of staying in a hotel on Saturday 17 October, the night before Ireland’s clash with Argentina, will cost you a whopping €1664.

No wonder so many people are happy to sleep in hostels, trains or the boat.
