The O’Neill/Keane news has slashed the odds on Ireland’s qualification for Euro 2016

The lads aren’t even in the jobs yet, but the bookies reckon we’re all headed to France in 2016.

The news that broke on Friday night regarding the possibility of Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane becoming the Irish football management team sent a ripple of excitement across all Irish football fans.

Whatever you might think of the duo, we are certainly guaranteed interesting times ahead for our international team. But when the dust settles, and the lads get down to work, the job they have is to qualify Ireland for Euro 2016 in France, the process for which starts next season.

But even before a ball has been kicked, Ladbrokes reckon we can all pack our bags for France with Ireland at Evens to qualify, and we don’t even know the group yet.

In fact, they are even pricing us at 5/1 to qualify for World Cup 2018 in Russia. O’Neill is 1/5 to still be the gaffer for the first World Cup qualifier in late 2016 and if you are feeling even more confident in our new team, you can get Ireland at 500/1 to win World Cup 2018.

In the more immediate future, odds on the two lads debut match in charge, against Latvia on November15, being a sell out are 5/1.

Hayley O’Connor of Ladbrokes said: “With a new manager making his début at the helm with the FAI’s prodigal son his number two, ticket sales to Ireland’s friendly against Latvia are bound to be boosted and it could be a sell-out match.”
