JOE

All the moves, rumours and speculation from one of the biggest days of the football year, as it happened.

11:30pm: No confirmation of Falcao or Welbeck deals yet folks but we’re going to leave it there assuming that they’re going to happen, as sources close to both deals appear to believe will be the case. Thanks to the aforementioned Falcao and Welbeck amongst others it’s been one of the more interesting deadline days, but we’ll leave you with what we all know was the highlight. See you in January folks…

11:21pm: We’re as excited about going to bed as Jim White was by the sound of Big Ben…

11:12pm: Irish international striker Kevin Doyle has joined Crystal Palace on a season-long loan deal according to Sky Sports News.

11:08pm: The deadline has passed but we’re not quite done yet! Alvaro Negredo to Valencia is a done deal…

10:44pm: Gaston Ramirez has completed his loan move to Hull City from Southampton Twenty minutes left in the transfer window and two big deals still hang in the balance. Falcao to United and Welbeck to Arsenal. Nearly there folks!

10:33pm: James Cooper from SSN now telling us that United have some sort of a ‘term sheet’ under Premier League rules which will allow them an extra hour to complete the Falcao transfer. JOE wants to go to bed!!

10:26pm: SSN loving the fact that there is now only 31 minutes left and Falcao still hasn’t signed. Just waiting for the dramatic music soundtrack.

10:08pm: Everton confirm to SSN that they will not be signing Tom Cleverley from Manchester United.

10:05pm: SSN still reckon that the Falcao deal will happen at United. Dotting the ‘i’s and crossing the ‘t’s apparently

9:56pm: Looks like Alvaro Negredo is heading back to Spain from Manchester City to sign for Valencia on a loan deal with a permanent deal of £30m to happen after it. With a little over an hour left in the transfer window, still no announcement of the Falcao deal at Manchester United. Squeaky bum time?

9:53pm: There are only seven minutes to go in the Italian transfer window but Micah Richards still hasn’t signed for Fiorentina.

9:47pm: Reports that Southampton’s Gaston Ramirez is to join Hull City and the Steve Bruce revolution.

9:45pm: DONE DEAL – Crystal Palace announce the record signing of James McArthur from Wigan for a fee in the region of £7m.

9:42pm: BREAKING – Deal agreed in principle between Arsenal and United over the permanent transfer of Danny Welbeck according to SSN. But he’ll be cup-tied for the Capital One Cup!

9:39pm: Celtic have all bit sealed the loan signing of John Guidetti from Manchester City

9:30pm: SSN lady in yellow has just apologised for dildogate. No apology needed. It was the best thing all day.

9:23pm: More movement at Arsenal as Ryo Miyaichi joins FC Twente in Holland on loan.

9:16pm: Huge news at Arsenal! Ignasi Miquel has signed for Norwich on a three year deal. Sorry Arsenal fans, but it looks like Welbeck is in the bag. The news is coming thick and fast and with less than two hours to go, should United fans be worried that they still haven’t announced a deal for Falcao?

9:08pm: BREAKING – BBC are reporting that Arsenal and United have come to an agreement for the transfer of Danny Welbeck for £16m.

9:06pm: Neil Warnock still working to bring Kevin Doyle to Crystal Palace on loan.

9:05pm: Tom Cleverley is now being linked with Everton after his move to Villa fell through over his wage demands. Everton want him on loan, but United want a permanent deal.

8:52pm: Steve Bruce has been on the phone to Newcastle and has made a bid for Hatem Ben Arfa.

8:51pm: SSN reporting that Manchester City’s John Guidetti is up in Glasgow talking to Celtic about a year-long loan move.

8:43pm: DONE DEAL – Crystal Palace have announced the signing of Zeki Fryers from Tottenham on a three year deal.

8:36pm: DONE DEAL – Manchester United confirm the signing of Daley Blind from Ajax:

8:18pm: Arsenal may have problems trying to sign Welbeck from United as they don’t want to sell to a rival. Welbeck wants a permanent move, but United only interested in loan move.

8:07pm: Toronto’s Jim White says Jermaine Defoe is going nowhere. Sure we all knew that when he signed for Toronto:

8:02pm: Sky sources say that Cech was not being subliminal with that tweet, just being friendly. He will remain at Chelsea

8:00pm: The SSN lads are wearing yellow ties and the ladies all in yellow frocks. It’s like the Simpsons….or something.

7:39pm: Ajax say that Daley Blind to Manchester United is a done deal, after what happened last year, there were a few United fans worried that it might not go through in time.

7:35pm: Well played…

7:26pm: SSN saying that Danny Welbeck has NOT had a medical at Arsenal and that rumours of a deal for the Manchester United striker are greatly exaggerated. Expect to have it confirmed by 10pm then.

7:24pm: Ricky Alvarez completes his move to a barbershop quartet in the north of England… we mean Sunderland.

7:19pm: Harry Redknapp speaking to SSN about the impending arrival of Sandro at QPR but he wasn’t in his car leaning out the window. It just didn’t seem right.

7:12pm: No Marca, just no (via @MessiMinutes) falcaoheadline

7:07pm: All the talk today has been about Falcao and Manchester United, but on the other side of Manchester, it looks as if Alvaro Negredo’s move to Valencia will be completed before the deadline tonight and City are happy to go without signing a replacement.

7:04pm: Done Deal: Hull City have signed Mohamed Diame from West Ham, Diame trying manfully not to be scared by the giant tiger in the background.

6:58pm: We don’t know where Robbie got his information on this one, but we strongly suspect he might be just trolling Arsenal fans…

6:49pm: Seriously on Falcao though, the numbers involved are pretty eye-opening. According to The Telegraph, he’ll earn £346,000 a week, which, combined with a £6million loan fee, will mean he’ll end up costing United around £24 million for one season. A spicy meatball indeed.

6:44pm: Try to stay calm folks, but RADAMEL FALCAO’S CAR HAS ARRIVED AT CARRINGTON. And what a nice car it is.

6:40pm: Joey Barton sums it up better than we ever could…

6:24pm: Guardian reporting that Leicester City are now sniffing around Jermaine Defoe which must be very disconcerting for the player. Robbie Savage has noticed the Redknapp incident and he’s either laughing or has some kind of bizarre Twitter stammer, a Twammer if you will:

6:13pm: SSN now telling us that Danny Welbeck is having a medical at Arsenal. It’s all happening.

6:10pm: History is made as Harry Redknapp refuses to stop for the Sky cameras and give one of his famous car window interviews. Maybe Harry thought Gary Cotterill was from the revenue. Michael Owen has just had his say on Falcao joining United, but nobody could make it to the end of his sentence without the eyes glazing over and going to their happy place. Five hours remaining and the pace is certainly picking up. Hundreds of United fans now reportedly at Carrington hoping to catch a glimpse of Falcao as he arrives for his medical.

6.02pm: Reports in Portugal are saying Arsenal have put in a late bid for William Carvalho, but it was not enough to tempt Sporting to sell. It seems Arsenal slept in today, but have woken and have gone to work.

5:57pm: BREAKING – James Olley from the London Evening Standard has just tweeted that Danny Welbeck has turned up at Arsenal’s training ground to force through a move:

5.44pm: Fresh after the signing of Stambouli the rumours are back about the signing for Spurs of Danny Welbeck from Manchester United.

5:41pm: SSN’s Gary Cotterill is using the invisible spray to keep back baying louts in the background as he tries to do his job. Seriously.

4:55pm: Stoke City have exploded all over the transfer window with news from the BBC saying that they have signed Liverpool’s Oussama Assaidi on loan. Not only that, but they are now being linked with moves for John Lennon’s son Aaron from Spurs and Nathan Redmond from Norwich.

4:51pm: Borussia Dortmund release heart-warming pictures of Kagawa’s return to the club. It’s like Jack and Rose all over again. Something in my eye.

4:49pm: SSN reporting that John Arne Riise has signed for Cypriot club Apoel Nicosia. No fee mentioned. Maybe there wasn’t one. Maybe John Arne Riise signs for whoever he wants and on his terms. Maybe he loves Cillian Sheridan.

4:44pm: There is only half an hour to go in the Bundesliga transfer window say the BBC and Hamburg are putting Lewis Holtby through the fastest medical in history. He has just broken Usain Bolt’s 100m world record on the treadmill with little wires attached to his chest and stuff.

4:39pm: Jim White has arrived at SSN and of course he’s underplaying it. Now, the window begins!

4:35pm: Cardiff City fans will be doing cartwheels to hear that defender Bruno Ecuele Manga from Lorient is having a medical at the Welsh club with a view to signing a three year deal.

3:57: Burnley having a busy day with BBC reporting that they’ve signed Nathaniel Chalobah from Chelsea on loan, however both clubs seem a bit confused. Chelsea have wished the player well for his season-long loan, but Burnley have said it’s only till January. There must have been misinterpretations of Northern English and Cockney.

3:54: Andy Hunter from the Guardian giving an update on Borini says that Liverpool have accepted a £10m bid from QPR for the player.

3:52: The Guardian’s Daniel Taylor reckons there’s a potential hitch with the Diego Capel from Sporting Lisbon to Southampton move:

3:20: Javier Hernandez being presented to the Spanish media:

3:07: Wigan new boy Andy Delort looks delighted to be at the DW

3:00: Mirror say that Jermain Defoe’s move to QPR us being held up over his £90,000-a-week wage demand. We’ll let that sink in for a while…

2:56: Aston Villa could be about to get a whole lot sexier as the Sky Sports News bod has just said that the club have bid for Real Sociedad’s Sergio Canales. We like Canales a lot. Would be a great bit of business for Villa if they can pull it off.

2:53: And because we love him so much, here is what Yanik Wildschut looks like, from his Heerenveen days. PEC Zwolle v SC Heerenveen - Eredivisie

2:48: Odds on Scott Sinclair moving to Stoke from Man City gone from 33/1 to 1/2. Who bets of Scott Sinclair’s future?

2:41: Footballer name of the day goes to new Middlesbrough signing Yanic Wildschut. We have no idea if the winger is any good, but he has the sort of name we’d love to shout at the top of our voice if he played for our club.

2:38: Everton have done a deal, signing Anderlecht striker David Henen. Talk that Everton might do another loan deal before the end of the day 2:32: According to the Beeb, Virgil Van Dijk is not leaving Celtic. Great news for Bhoys fans

2:22: More Irish rumours. Richard Dunne is being pursued by Burnley…

2:20: According to the Guardian, Valentin Roberge is to leave Sunderland for Reims while Newcastle’s Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa could be off to Roma. We’re pretty sure we have never seen either of those lads ever kick a ball.

2:15: Gary Hooper to Palace? So say the Mirror. Wonder would that scupper Kevin Doyle’s hopes of getting a gig at Selhurst Park?

2:08: Latest person to head to the Old Trafford exit? Nick Powell to Leicester, according to Sky Sports.

2:04: If you have switched on Sky Sports News by now you will have seen that all the correspondents are wearing yellow ties for the day. Our own Paul McShane is not a fan.

1.58: By the way, expect one of the most drawn out deals of the day to be Jay Rodriguez to Spurs. Currently off but I predict you will have someone on SSN shouting ‘THE DEAL IS BACK ON’ at some point tonight. Andros Townsend might be going the other way.

1.53: Deal of the day, hands down. Zenit St Petersburg and AVB have signed Bart Simspon. Zenit Bart No, we have no clue what is going on either

1.46: According to the BBC, the most wanted man in football today is… Matija Nastasic. Yes the City defender is available on loan and Arsenal, Spurs, Newcastle, Juve and Marseille want to take him off Manuel Pellegrini’s hands.

1.44: Speaking of Shay Given, check out the pictures of him at Ireland training today. In other goalkeeper news, the folks on Sky Sports have said that Chelsea’s Petr Cech will not be joining PSG.

1.35: It is time we address Arsenal fans. After a less than stellar show at Leicester City yesterday, Gooners woke up hoping that another striker, and a centre back or defensive midfielder, would be headed to the club. The only news so far today regarding Arsenal is as follows; a) They have been linked to Jermain Defoe b) Well-informed BBC journo David Ornstein reckons there will be no business done at Arsenal today c) Arsene Wenger is on his way to Rome to referee a charity match All of the above add up to a lot of grumpy Gunners this lunchtime.

1.29: DONE DEAL

1:23: So, what are those Irish player rumours that will keep us amused for the next 1o hours or so? Well, the biggie is the rumour that Kevin Doyle could be back in the Premier League, going on loan to Crystal Palace from Wolves. That’d be great news if true. The other surrounds Shay Given. The keeper was asked at Ireland training this morning was he staying at Aston Villa and he said he was open to moving. One to watch.

1.17: Welcome to our live coverage of Transfer Deadline Day. The twice a year jamboree can occasionally disappoint but this summer’s edition is off to an absolute flyer. Here is what has happened so far; Radamel Falcao has joined Manchester United on loan, once he passes a medical later today Shane Duffy has joined Blackburn from Everton James McArthur is joining Crystal Palace from Wigan George Boyd has joined Burnley from Hull Micah Richards is set to join Fiorentina Javier Hernandez is in Madrid ahead of a loan move to Real Loads more rumours flying around, including a few Irish players too. We’ll fill you in on those in a moment.
