Trap’s birthday wish is one we can all agree on

Not only is today our National Day, it’s also Giovanni Trapattoni’s birthday and the Italian has a special wish that’s going to be hard to pull off. Unfortunately.

When Trap was given the gig to turn Irish football fortunes around we all knew it was good sign that his birthday was March 17. That sort of stuff is a sign that things are going to be grand and so it has proved, as we prepare to go to our first tournament in a decade this summer.

But what do you get the man who has everything? At 73, Trap has seen it all and done it all and when you dress as snappily as he does, he looks a hard man to buy for.

So The Irish Daily Star went to the Italian’s home town of Cusano Milanino, gave him a big green cake and asked him what he would like for his birthday. Hs answer will require St Patrick to return and do a few more miracles.

When asked who the best player in the world is right now Trap debated between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi before seeing sense and choosing Messi. Then he said: “If only he was Irish, I would choose Messi.”

If only indeed Il Trap. Anyway, we can’t get a passport sorted for the Barca star in time so we will have to make do with what we got and Trap is talking the talk ahead of the Euros.

“It is not forbidden to dream but it will be very difficult. There are teams who are stronger than us but never say never.” Who needs Messi anyway, we have James McClean. About that Trap…
