An actual Squirtle would have done a better job.
Martin Skrtel replaced the booked Dejan Lovren in the second-half of Liverpool’s away game to Southampton this afternoon.
The scoreline was 2-0 in Liverpool’s favour when the Slovakian entered the fray, but by the time he’d had his say on the game, Liverpool were leaving St. Mary’s empty-handed after a 3-2 defeat.
It’s not often you can dedicate an entire article to the online abuse being suffered by one player – but this performance is nothing short of a special occasion.
Here’s how social media lambasted Skrtel after that catastrophic performance:

We are sat here feeling horrible, looking like mugs and Skrtel pockets 3 million pounds a year for that.

In Martin Skrtel's last 86 minutes on the pitch, the score is #LFC 0, Watford & Southampton 5
But I'm sure it's just a coincidence— Conor Bradley Fan Account (@DanKennett) March 20, 2016
LFC conceded as many goals in one half with Skrtel in the team than in their previous 795 minutes without him, plus he gave away a penalty.

As of publication, ‘Skrtel’ is literally the top trending topic in Ireland right now. Have you ever been so bad in a game of football that you are the most talked about thing in a country?
Poor Skrtel.
