It’s happened, it’s official, now we can all get on with looking forward to it…
It was officially announced that Conor McGregor will take on Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in November after weeks of speculation on the subject.
Even though the fight will be for the UFC lightweight title, McGregor will not relinquish his 145 belt, despite claims from UFC President Dana White that he would have to give it up, although he stopped short of saying he would be stripped of the belt.
The fight with Alvarez looked dead in the water a few days ago when White proclaimed on Twitter that any lightweight title match would be between Eddie Alvarez and number one contender Khabib Nurmagomedov.
But with UFC 205 less than two months away and the UFC needing a main event that would sell Pay-Per-Views, their options were somewhat limited and hence the monster draw that is Conor McGregor got his wish to fight Alvarez.
In what will surely be a moment not to be missed, there’s a press conference tonight at 11pm Irish time in New York, with McGregor reportedly flying over today to take part.
There was a strong reaction to the fight announcement online…

Eddie Alvarez is in NY already, will be at press conference. No confirmation on Conor McGregor, but I don't think it's been ruled out.

We were all thinking it
Me, externally: McGregor/Alvarez is an incredible fight between two phenomenal counter punchers.
Me, internally: ÉIREEEEEEEEEEE.— The Naked Gambler (@NakedGambling) September 27, 2016
If McGregor holds two UFC titles simultaneously in the UFC's two deepest divisions, I don't want to hear any more of this DJ P4P #1 shit.

Good fight with McGregor and Alvarez for UFC 205. But it is a joke what they're doing with the featherweight title.
