All hail Richie Towel.
Today’s FAI Cup final went right down to the wire today. Neither team found a way to break the deadlock in normal time but this season’s stand-out player, Richie Towell, made all the difference in extra-time.
Towell’s winner made it 29 for the season. Speaking to RTÉ after the game, he said that the gaffer set him a target of 30 at the season’s outset to which Towell responded ‘Are you mad?’. Not quite, it would seem.
Richie Towell’s young age and prolific goal-scoring record has raised some questions about why he didn’t make Martin O’Neill’s 39-man squad to face Bosnia next week. His goal today, a calm finish under huge pressure, has only added to those questions:
Richie Towell deserves a Ireland call up. Makes more sense than having the likes of McShane and other rejects in the squad #FAICupFinal

Richie Towell should in the Irish squad and play in in England

No Richie Towell but Simon Cox makes the squad. It's a bit farcical.

When Paul Green can get in Ireland provisional squads ahead of Richie Towell you know there's a serious problem with Irish Football.
