Video: A truly spectacular own basket from college basketball in the US

Not that he ever would, but James Young of the Kentucky Wildcats could try this a thousand times over again and would never have the same result.

Not that he ever would, but James Young of the Kentucky Wildcats could try this a thousand times over again and would never have the same result.

Own goals are a common enough occurrence in football – and boy, have there been some spectacular ones over the years – but because it’s almost impossible to pull it off accidentally, scoring into your own basket occurs way less often on the basketball court.

With that in mind, James Young of the Kentucky Wildcats will always be known for scoring one of the most spectacular own-baskets in the history of the sport and all because he burst his arse trying to keep the ball in play in the first place.

Instead, he ended up scooping the ball high up into the air and into his own basket in a game against Montevallo yesterday, but although he was in three-point range, the score was only worth two points to the opposition, as is the case for an own-basket scored from anywhere on the court according to the NCAA rulebook.

Having scored probably the most spectacular own goal in football history, at least Chris Brass will know how Young feels…
