Prime Video has already added some incredible films this month and it’s now just added one of the best films of the 21st century.
We’re talking about Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), AKA just Birdman, the 2014 dark comedy directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu.
Birdman stars Michael Keaton as a washed-up Hollywood actor, best known for playing a superhero named Birdman, and follows the struggles he faces while trying to make a comeback by writing, directing, and starring in a Broadway show.
The supporting cast features Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, Emma Stone, and Naomi Watts.
Ten years on, Birdman is just as impressive and unique, but upon its release in 2014, the film was universally praised, making it to #1 in many Top 10 film lists of the year.
It also blew the roof off when it came to awards season, winning the Academy Award for Best Picture, along with Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Cinematography from a total of nine nominations.
Birdman’s incredible one-take style visuals, it’s percussive score and its incredible lead performances from Keaton, Norton and Stone has cemented the film’s status as one of the best of the 21st century and it’s an absolute must-watch for those who still haven’t checked it out.

If you’re still on the fence about Birdman, take a look at some of the high praise it received from critics below.
Chicago Sun-Times – “This is a strange and beautiful and unique film, one of the best movies of the year.”
Empire Magazine – “Birdman is everything you want movies to be: vital, challenging, intellectually alive, visually stunning, emotionally affecting.”
Washington Post – “Birdman vividly evokes a time of equal parts possibility and terrifying uncertainty, and makes a persuasive case that, when the ground is shifting beneath your feet, the best thing to do is to take flight.”
Rolling Stone – “I’m jazzed by every daring, devastating, howlingly funny, how’d-they-do-that minute in Birdman. Powered by Michael Keaton’s pinballing tour de force, Iñárritu’s cinematic whirlwind is an exhilarating high. No true movie lover would dare miss it.”
Vulture – “How can you not be in awe of the sheer physical achievement, of the intricate choreography of the actors and the camera, of the gung ho performances? When it ends you go, “Whew!” It’s a triumph of vacuous virtuosity.”
Birdman is now available to stream on Prime Video in the UK and Ireland.
