Considering what Rene Ranger is capable of, the recipient of the one-finger salute got off lightly.
Even by the lofty standards of New Zealand rugby, Rene Ranger is a beast of a man. Just before the Lions Tour he did some serious damage to James O’Connor and he was also the man behind this savage hit on Nic White (pictured above).
So we think that Bundee Aki of the Chiefs is a very lucky boy indeed. He went a little high on Ranger in a game at the weekend and the referee didn’t card him.
Ranger, rather than smash Aki, or anyone else, instead flipped the old bird at an unknown individual, thought to be the referee or linesman.
Bizarrely, it seems Ranger has gotten away with the one-finger salute and the next time we see him it should be in the colours of Montpellier.
