Video: Fantastic behind-the-goal angle of Maradona’s wonder goal against England in 1986

How have we not seen this before?

How have we not seen this before?

Probably the most famous goal ever scored by one of the most famous players ever to pull on a pair of boots, Maradona’s second goal against England at the 1986 World Cup is rightfully remembered as one of the greatest goals of all time.

Every football fan knows it off by heart; the quick turn, the acceleration, the speed at which he blows past Butcher, Reid, Fenwick, Hodge and Shilton before the famous finish, it is one of the game’s most classic sequences.

But up to know, we have only ever seen the side-on angle. Thankfully, behind-the-goal footage has now emerged and it’s bloody amazing. At real speed you can see just how easily the little Argentinian skips away from the challenges, but it is in slo-mo that this clip really comes into its own.

None of the English player’s even come close to stopping him, and you can clearly see that Maradona gets the final touch.

The original never gets old, and this one is like discovering a bonus track on a favourite old album.
