Gareth Bale took abuse from a section of Real Madrid fans after his side’s Champions League exit on Wednesday night.

Madrid lost 3-2 to Juventus on aggregate and Bale missed a number of chances at the Bernabeu, including a late close range header that many felt he should have scored.

The Madrid fans made their feelings known after the game, shouting abuse terms such as ‘cabron’ (motherf****r) and ‘hijo de puta’ (ehm, also motherf****r).

Bale earlier defended his form on Sky Sports News.

“There have been some ups and downs but personally I think I’ve played well,” he told Sky Sports of his season.

“I’ve maybe not scored as many important chances as I’d like but my general play has been good. My finishing is not as good and that’s something to work on for next year.

“What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger and I’ll learn from this season and take it on.

“I was unlucky not to grab one,” he added. “As long as I keep trying, usually one goes in. Unfortunately it didn’t happen tonight and you move on.”
