Video: How crucial could this goal be in the title race?

The name Luke Moore might not have meant much to fans of either Manchester club before this afternoon. But it will now.

The former Aston Villa striker was in the right place at the right time to head home a Wayne Routledge cross and score the only goal of the game (see below) as Swansea earned a magnificent victory over Man City at the Liberty Stadium.

The goal would have been cheered as loudly in Old Trafford as it was in the Liberty Stadium as with United easing to a comfortable victory over West Brom, the champions have now overtaken their bitter rivals by a single point at the top of the table with ten games left to go in the season.

The Swans were deserving winners on the day and while Micah Richards had a late equaliser chalked off for offside (by Sian Massey – remember her?), anything but a win would have been harsh on Brendan Rodgers’ men, who have been a delight to watch this season.

At Old Trafford, Wayne Rooney struck both goals in what was a facile enough win for the Red Devils. United were slow to start but looked in control following Rooney’s first-half strike and after Jonas Olsson was given his marching orders for two yellow cards early in the second half the outcome seemed a formality. It was subsequently assured when Rooney struck his second from the penalty spot after our own Keith Andrews fouled Ashley Young in the penalty area.

It was a fairly run of the mill encounter, but at least the fans were given some entertainment by a spectacular tumble from Phil Jones over the advertising hoardings.

The youngster hopped up straight away and seemed to be none the worse for wear, although we’re sure his face looked a little something like this after the initial impact.
