The Monday Night Football duo were in top form as they explained where it went wrong for Brendan Rodgers and right for Jose Mourinho.
Of all the many hours of sport we watch in JOE Towers, the most eagerly anticipated is usually the hour before kick-off on the Monday Night Football show. Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville consistently deliver entertaining, informative and educational analysis of the weekend’s action and tonight was no exception.
On the back of Chelsea’s unexpected 2-0 win at Anfield, we were really looking forward to see how the two lads would analyse the defending and we were not disappointed. Carragher explained the problems Liverpool faced trying to play their style against Chelsea’s long-ball tactics and he also displayed just how organised their time-wasting tactics were.
Carragher also has an interesting take on how Liverpool contrived to get themselves into the position where Steven Gerrard’s slip proved so damaging.
Neville took on Liverpool’s offensive issues and how they couldn’t adapt to penetrate the steadfast Chelsea defence.
But Neville was also hugely interesting on the title race. He does not rule Liverpool out, he ‘doesn’t trust Manchester City’ and he thinks that they could be complacent.
It is absorbing stuff.
